She wants Revenge, OK Go, the Lashes

As a celebration for the end of my 2 year stint in the dental hygiene program (quite an accomplishment for both me AND Chris!), we scored tickets for a super-cheap concert playing in Northern Lights, an obscure concert arena in Clifton Township, NY. It was about a 2 hour drive to get there, but hey, even WITH the price of gas it was a cheap concert! The cool thing was that because it was a school night, AND because Northern Lights was such a faraway little arena, there weren’t a lot of people waiting in line. While we were in line, we met a brother and sister from Saratoga, Danielle and Tim. They were hilarious! Tim bought Danielle tickets as a belated birthday gift. We ended up hanging around with them the entire night.

The show began at 8:00 with the Lashes, a semi-punk band that is well known for their song “Sometimes the Sun”. They had 4 guitarists, the most I’ve seen in one band! Their set was pretty cool, and after they played they just walked off the front of the stage and sat with everyone, listening to the other bands and having a drink. The other 2 bands ended up doing the same thing. It was pretty cool to have famous people walking by us and sitting near us. It was a pretty relaxed atmosphere so no one made a big deal out of it, which I think allowed them to feel comfortable enough to hang with everyone. That’s the closest I’ve ever been to famous people! Wowee!

OK Go was up for the second set, and they didn’t dissapoint, although their set was rather long, enough to the point that you felt like saying “OK please GO now! We want to see She Wants Revenge!”. We started getting nervous that they wouldn’t sing “A million ways” or do the dance, but for their very last song they did the dance to an audio recording of their song (guess it’s hard to do the dance and sing at the same time). It was hilarious! The guy with the glasses featured in the video walked right by us and ordered a drink right near us. He is SUPER short by the way!

After a very long wait, She Wants Revenge came onstage! I have to admit, at first I thought hearing them in concert would be dissapointing. Although I liked their unique electro-goth/Interpol sound-alike music, I was afraid that they would come across as nothing but a couple of wanabees with synthesizers. This concert completely put me to shame. Not only were they extremely polite and easygoing, but they blew us out of the water with their live performance. In fact, I would venture to say that their album sounded even BETTER and more hard-core live. Danielle and I had a lot of fun dancing to the songs, and when “Its Cause of These Things” came on, we even mimed the song together.

SWR played for a decent amount of time before ending with a perfect performance of “Tear you Apart” involving the entire crowd clapping and singing. Everyone went wild.

Danielle and Tim exchanged emails and numbers with us and we made plans for getting together for more concerts in the area. We can’t wait to go to Northern Lights again, or for that matter to add to our growing list of concerts!
