Spring is here!

We saw the first daffodils poking up out of the ground on our walk around town today. The pall of gloom that was winter finally seems to have lifted!

This past Friday I had another ob-gyn appointment and Chris and I heard the baby’s heartbeat for the first time! It took the midwife FOREVER to find it because the little guy (Now about the size of a peach I am told, so we’ve been calling it “li’l peach”) was jumping all around–sounds like a typical spawn of me :).

Nothing really makes you more aware of the life within you as the sound of that little thump-thumping…

Forgot to add about the Cliks concert that the lead singer, Lucas, is transgendered, and had a very touching story (and cool tattoo) on L.A Ink. Unfortunately it seems that due to his “lifestyle choice” he seems to be far underrated as a music artist. That is just a shame because the Cliks blew us away with their talent, and they were friendly and humble to boot. They met a 13 year old boy Danny at one of their concerts and heard he was a pretty good guitar player. Well they invited him to finish the rest of their tour with them and play on stage during a couple of their songs–they treated this kid like he was royalty, and he was on cloud 9! Not to mention he was amazing on the guitar.
Ok that’s all I wanted to add. Peace out and happy spring!

Scary day.

I had a very scary morning at work. We were going over the day’s charts in our morning huddle when all of a sudden I felt hot and like the room was closing in on me. I started to lose vision, and the next thing I know I was on the floor with my boss standing over me and my coworkers surrounding me.
I guess I fainted.
That has NEVER happened to me before.
During this pregnancy I’ve been eating plenty and I thought drinking enough fluids and all. I did eat a good breakfast that morning and I felt perfectly fine up until that moment. Only a few seconds before I was joking around with my coworkers!
I can’t believe how nicely everyone handled my fainting-thank God they were all around when it happened.
Kim, our receptionist, saw that I was falling and she caught hold of me and placed me gently on the floor (I was wondering why I wasn’t aching all over when I came to!). Kelly, one of the assistants, grabbed my glasses for me before I fell, and Brooke, the other hygienist, caught my charts as I was falling, so I didn’t spill them all over the place.
I was so embarrased when I came to, but everyone was so sweet and concerned. They made me sit down and got me some gatorade. Janet, my boss told me she’d reschedule the days patients and she just wanted me to rest at home.
Kim joked, “You’re not pregnant, are you??”
It wasn’t the way I expected to tell them, but I felt now was as good a time as ever. I was afraid of how the news would be received, but everyone was happy and understanding! I told my boss I still was hoping to work for her after my pregnancy leave, and she was fine with it.

They had me rest at work for a while and then told me to call my ob-gyn when I went home. They called later to check up on me and make sure I was OK.
Later on in the afternoon, they even sent me a bouquet of daffodils and a card! I felt so touched that they were so good to me.

My ob-gyn said that I should just rest today and get plenty of fluids and food. She said sometimes that happens (I know Leah talked about a similar scary event!).
I am just hoping this does NOT happen again. But thank God it didn’t happen while I was working on a patient!!

Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Well this is the first time in a while that we’ve had Easter when the ground was still covered in snow. But Spring comes ever closer…as far away as it seems in cold Vermont!

As I’m sure most of you know by now, Chris and I are expecting a jellybean of our own sometime this year–October to be exact. Yay for Halloween babies, right?

Chris has affectionately dubbed my growing (not too big yet) tummy, “Boo Belly” in honor of the impending occasion. 🙂

a Wii for Thii

My wife surprised me the other night by getting me a Wii. I have been wanting to get one for a while but they have been out of stock everywhere. It was going to be a present from my parents and sister but since they have been sold out we have been waiting to see if one was in stock. She had a friend of our cousin’s boyfriend reserve one and had it shipped up here. It was a nice surprise especially given the day I had at the office.

I have to say I really like the Wii, the graphics are not that great but I love the innovative controllers. My arms are still sore from all the Tennis and baseball I have been playing on the wii lately. We got a new game the other night, Super Mario Galaxies, which is fun since we can both play at once.

More to follow I am sure after my arms are rested.

Little things

CANCELLED this weekend:

1. Babysitting for our friends Saturday night

2. Concert (The Cliks) on Sunday in Noho. Last minute, lead singer got sick. We even drove all the way there, to find out they had just cancelled when we got to the door. Oh well, at least we got to grab a drink at the Sierra Grille before we headed home…

In a way, the cancellations were a blessing in disguise. Who really wants to go out in such crappy weather? So we got to bum around inside, sipping hot tea and watching Clean Sweep (made our house not feel like such a mess!), and 30 Rock (gotta love Alec Baldwin).

Seriously spring cannot come sooner though!!!

If you want to see some seriously bad singing coupled with a bad music video, check this out (apparently the girl in it thinks she is the next Mariah Carey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSRigInpvYM&feature=related

7 Weeks till Sanity Resumes

I am counting the weeks, ok maybe the hours till sanity resumes in the form of my new boss who starts not soon enough.

Today was just one of those days that gives you a headaches and makes you just wonderhas the world gone crazy?

It all started with an email asking for me not to do what I was originally hired to do for my job but instead concentrate on only 3 projects for the next month or so. Anyone that works in web development knows this is a recipie for disaster. Yes that is right, doesn’t make much sense to me but that is pretty typical of late of request.

Then later on before I leave I have a short meeting with the person who sent it only to explain that those are needed functions that cannot stop….. long story short I m continuing too do those things.

It became more evident that I hope my new boss actually spends a little bit of time to find out what I do day to day. I have met her and don’t think that is going to be a problem, she seems to have a pretty good grasp on the big picture and doesn’t have such tunnel vision as the current one.

Next Morning take on it:

After a nice walk, venting with my wife which really helps, it is even more apparent why this person is a consultant. As one you don’t have to worry about any long term chaos or problems you create. You may sweep in get a few things done and dash out of the job before anything really hits the fan.

Needless to say I will be counting the days now, which hopefully will make me feel better.

Perfect Phrase to Sum what is it up

It’s Momento mixed with Clockwork Orange.
You don’t know if you are going forward or backward and you always wondering WTF is happening.

Amazing video for YES WE CAN, a must see. Over 2 million views in a few days.

Boston, baby

So this weekend I had to go to Boston for a dental convention. I had hoped to leave Friday night because my class was super early in the morning, but the bad weather made that impossible. I had to leave Saturday morning at the god-awful time of 4:30 a.m!
I got there on time, but the class that I took was kind of a disappointment. Instead of talking about periodontal instrumentation, the instructor mostly droned on about stuff that had nothing to do with anything, like explaining what groundhog day was (who doesn’t know what it is? And who CARES!!?)
The good thing: some cute periodontal grad students from France helped teach the class! oui oui! (sorry Chris, but you’re way cuter anyway).
I DID get a lot of free goodies, like toothbrushes and such…

I met up with my sis in law for the afternoon and we grabbed lunch and hung out, we also met up with my friend Donna who came with us to St. John. She and a couple of her coworkers were there for the dental convention too.

My sister in law has the good fortune of living in one of those beautiful brownstone apartments on the impeccable Newbury Street. She had a gorgeous apartment in a lovely old building with a complete view of the back bay from her window. Seeing it lit up at night was quite a sight!

We went out to dinner with Donna and her hygienist friend DD, and then went bar hopping for a bit. We ended up at the Black Rose until the wee hours of the morning, singing along with the band some Irish drinking songs. We met a 72 year old retired teacher (totally harmless guy) who square danced the night away with us!
We ended up back at Jen’s apartment after, drinking wine and playing cards until 4 a.m.

I had a very good time but I’m still recovering from all the lack of sleep! And I missed Chris.

So the Giants won the superbowl. Maybe the Pats let them win because they didn’t want to seem size prejudice.

Does anyone know whatever happened to the Bud Bowl? It just disappeared.

(This is a very minor accomplishment, but I do have to say I’m a wee bit proud of myself for driving all the way to Boston without getting lost, and taking the T allover all by myself without getting lost either!)

BODIES in Hartford

This past Sunday Chris and I got a chance to see the BODIES exhibit in Hartford with his cousin Jeana, who is studying to be a mortician. It was extremely fascinating but not for the faint of heart ( I think I saw Chris turn green a couple of times). It is incredible how they were able to preserve and display the human body as such. Would’ve been very helpful for an anatomy and physiology class!
It made you see just how intricate and delicate the human body is.

In other news, Midnight the cat is doing slightly better but is NOT happy with us for all the meds we have to give him. He has been eating a bit more, and complaining a lot about his plight. Several cat bills later (!!!!), our baby is back, so we’re happy.
