Easter

Happy Easter everyone! Well this is the first time in a while that we’ve had Easter when the ground was still covered in snow. But Spring comes ever closer…as far away as it seems in cold Vermont!

As I’m sure most of you know by now, Chris and I are expecting a jellybean of our own sometime this year–October to be exact. Yay for Halloween babies, right?

Chris has affectionately dubbed my growing (not too big yet) tummy, “Boo Belly” in honor of the impending occasion. 🙂

Four days of Fun in Florida

This past week Chris and I snuck away for a semi long-weekend in our fave quick getaway spot, sunny Florida.
We spent Wednesday through Saturday there at the Best Western hotel in downtown Disney.
Although check in time was 3, our hotel wasn’t ready yet so the front desk woman told us to return in half an hour. When we did, it STILL wasn’t ready and when they called to see when it would be, the housekeeping dept. gave them a snotty response saying they had no idea when.

We returned again at 4: 15 and the room was STILL not ready. At this point we just wanted to lay down, so we asked if any other rooms were available that we could switch to? After checking 10 floors and still finding nothing, the front desk woman was nice enough to offer us one of the nicer, business suites at no extra charge–she felt bad because the room should have been ready a long time ago. That was nice of her.

Wednesday evening we grabbed some iced mocha’s downtown at Ghirardelli’s and snagged some salads at Earl of Sandwich. we saw the movie “Charlie Bartlett”, which was very good. The main character reminded us of a Ferris Bueller type guy (Bueller? anyone?).

Thursday we spent at our favorite little hideaway beach, Clementine. The weather was warm and mild, and we napped in the sun. The rain and thunderstorms were nice enough to hold off until that evening. Since the weather was too lousy to do anything else, we caught another movie, “Be Kind Rewind”. It was hilarious, we loved it.

Unfortunately when we got home that night poor Chris got food poisoning! I felt terrible seeing him so miserable.
We were hoping to go to the Magic Kingdom on our last full day, Friday, but alas no Mickey… the poor hubby was bedridden and looked like death warmed over the whole day (I’m sure he felt like it too). We did get a chance to take a couple of short walks (it was a very warm 85 and sunny) and I caught up on some reading. Poor Chris caught up on sleep…

By the time Saturday rolled around we were bummed because, as always, it went by too darn fast. I came down with a bad head cold, but I’ll take that over food poisoning! The weather was cold and windy which was depressing, but made it easier to leave. We had a turbulent flight home due to windy conditions but we made it in once peace, and by each other’s side.

I just felt lucky to spend a few quiet days in the sun, just me and Chris.

For the most part the weather cooperated…even if our bodies didn’t!

a Wii for Thii

My wife surprised me the other night by getting me a Wii. I have been wanting to get one for a while but they have been out of stock everywhere. It was going to be a present from my parents and sister but since they have been sold out we have been waiting to see if one was in stock. She had a friend of our cousin’s boyfriend reserve one and had it shipped up here. It was a nice surprise especially given the day I had at the office.

I have to say I really like the Wii, the graphics are not that great but I love the innovative controllers. My arms are still sore from all the Tennis and baseball I have been playing on the wii lately. We got a new game the other night, Super Mario Galaxies, which is fun since we can both play at once.

More to follow I am sure after my arms are rested.

Little things

CANCELLED this weekend:

1. Babysitting for our friends Saturday night

2. Concert (The Cliks) on Sunday in Noho. Last minute, lead singer got sick. We even drove all the way there, to find out they had just cancelled when we got to the door. Oh well, at least we got to grab a drink at the Sierra Grille before we headed home…

In a way, the cancellations were a blessing in disguise. Who really wants to go out in such crappy weather? So we got to bum around inside, sipping hot tea and watching Clean Sweep (made our house not feel like such a mess!), and 30 Rock (gotta love Alec Baldwin).

Seriously spring cannot come sooner though!!!

If you want to see some seriously bad singing coupled with a bad music video, check this out (apparently the girl in it thinks she is the next Mariah Carey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSRigInpvYM&feature=related

7 Weeks till Sanity Resumes

I am counting the weeks, ok maybe the hours till sanity resumes in the form of my new boss who starts not soon enough.

Today was just one of those days that gives you a headaches and makes you just wonderhas the world gone crazy?

It all started with an email asking for me not to do what I was originally hired to do for my job but instead concentrate on only 3 projects for the next month or so. Anyone that works in web development knows this is a recipie for disaster. Yes that is right, doesn’t make much sense to me but that is pretty typical of late of request.

Then later on before I leave I have a short meeting with the person who sent it only to explain that those are needed functions that cannot stop….. long story short I m continuing too do those things.

It became more evident that I hope my new boss actually spends a little bit of time to find out what I do day to day. I have met her and don’t think that is going to be a problem, she seems to have a pretty good grasp on the big picture and doesn’t have such tunnel vision as the current one.

Next Morning take on it:

After a nice walk, venting with my wife which really helps, it is even more apparent why this person is a consultant. As one you don’t have to worry about any long term chaos or problems you create. You may sweep in get a few things done and dash out of the job before anything really hits the fan.

Needless to say I will be counting the days now, which hopefully will make me feel better.

Perfect Phrase to Sum what is it up

It’s Momento mixed with Clockwork Orange.
You don’t know if you are going forward or backward and you always wondering WTF is happening.

Amazing video for YES WE CAN, a must see. Over 2 million views in a few days.

Boston, baby

So this weekend I had to go to Boston for a dental convention. I had hoped to leave Friday night because my class was super early in the morning, but the bad weather made that impossible. I had to leave Saturday morning at the god-awful time of 4:30 a.m!
I got there on time, but the class that I took was kind of a disappointment. Instead of talking about periodontal instrumentation, the instructor mostly droned on about stuff that had nothing to do with anything, like explaining what groundhog day was (who doesn’t know what it is? And who CARES!!?)
The good thing: some cute periodontal grad students from France helped teach the class! oui oui! (sorry Chris, but you’re way cuter anyway).
I DID get a lot of free goodies, like toothbrushes and such…

I met up with my sis in law for the afternoon and we grabbed lunch and hung out, we also met up with my friend Donna who came with us to St. John. She and a couple of her coworkers were there for the dental convention too.

My sister in law has the good fortune of living in one of those beautiful brownstone apartments on the impeccable Newbury Street. She had a gorgeous apartment in a lovely old building with a complete view of the back bay from her window. Seeing it lit up at night was quite a sight!

We went out to dinner with Donna and her hygienist friend DD, and then went bar hopping for a bit. We ended up at the Black Rose until the wee hours of the morning, singing along with the band some Irish drinking songs. We met a 72 year old retired teacher (totally harmless guy) who square danced the night away with us!
We ended up back at Jen’s apartment after, drinking wine and playing cards until 4 a.m.

I had a very good time but I’m still recovering from all the lack of sleep! And I missed Chris.

So the Giants won the superbowl. Maybe the Pats let them win because they didn’t want to seem size prejudice.

Does anyone know whatever happened to the Bud Bowl? It just disappeared.

(This is a very minor accomplishment, but I do have to say I’m a wee bit proud of myself for driving all the way to Boston without getting lost, and taking the T allover all by myself without getting lost either!)

BODIES in Hartford

This past Sunday Chris and I got a chance to see the BODIES exhibit in Hartford with his cousin Jeana, who is studying to be a mortician. It was extremely fascinating but not for the faint of heart ( I think I saw Chris turn green a couple of times). It is incredible how they were able to preserve and display the human body as such. Would’ve been very helpful for an anatomy and physiology class!
It made you see just how intricate and delicate the human body is.

In other news, Midnight the cat is doing slightly better but is NOT happy with us for all the meds we have to give him. He has been eating a bit more, and complaining a lot about his plight. Several cat bills later (!!!!), our baby is back, so we’re happy.

Poppin’ Providence

Saturday, January 26, 2007

After a day of having needles poked in me and putting large furniture objects on the car only to be dropped off at my parents house and reloaded later, we headed to Providence.

I had bought tickets to see The Birthday Massacre a few months ago after seeing their CD in hot topic and listening to some of their tunes. They looked good and the other two bands looked decent. Mostly we figured for the $10 tickets how can you really go wrong.

Armed with our Tom-Tom we set out to find the venue in Providence, the living room. We found it no problem, and it looked kinda run down but hell it was close to my parents place. Unfortunatly it was cold as hell, so we ended up at this very tall indoor mall less than a miles from the venue. We walked around enjoying not slipping on ice and such and just hung out, enjoyed each other company, had some Indian food, some lattes and such

Figuring we weren’t sure about the first band we got there just when the show started. I was glad we did, the first band Creature Feature was amazin. They didn’t take them self too seriously and the lead singer even went to order a drink at the end of one song. You would be surprised how many bands have an attitude even if they are openers (rock kill kid comes to mind). Their songs where real good, all relating to their love of monster movie, real good stuff. We got to talk to the band after their set and the keyboardist was very nice. Another good sign they sold out of all their albums on the tour. Later at home we downloaded their album, DRM free from Amazon. Of the three band Creature Feature impressed us most.

Next up was Schoolyard Heroes which where good. Their CD sounded good but their live show is not as great. The lead singer tries a little too much to be like Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She tried and maybe eventually she will get her own style.

Eventually the main band, The Birthday Massacre, came on. They are really really good live. The lead singer makes very cute adorable faces and even poses for candid photos from the crowd when singing, a very nice gesture. They played some new stuff like Red Star and a lot of their older stuff. They where really good live and where a hell of a lot of fun. They came back for a short encore and really hit all the good songs and performed well. One lead guitarist looked like a young marlyn manson and had some killer stage presence. At one point SchoolYardHeroes can on stage so there was a boatful of guitarists on stage, a nice site.

We headed home content in the bliss of enjoying a fistful of good indy music.
